Rotary Echo (Tuned to Forever)
Rotary Echo (Tuned to Forever) is built into a French radio box from the late 1940s or early 1950s. The original knobs remain, but now control LED light strips embedded within coiled clock springs. When a knob is turned to the right, the coil spins right. Or left, and it spins left. A see-through mirror on the front and a full mirror at the back create an infinite visual tunnel.
The piece recalls a time when radios were tuned to distant voices. Here, the signal loops endlessly inward instead—motion without message, echo without origin. Nothing is transmitted. Nothing is received. The circuit closes in on itself, tuned to forever.
